Direct neck lift with Z-plasty
In cases of pronounced sagging skin under the chin, especially in men or patients with a so-called "turkey neck", a classic neck lift is not always sufficient. In this case, a direct neck lift with Z-plasty can be a solution. This technique removes excess skin through a vertical incision in the centre of the neck. The scar is cleverly hidden in a Z-pattern, which distributes tension better and allows the skin to heal more beautifully. The underlying neck muscle (platysma) can also be tightened or repositioned in the process. This procedure is done under local anaesthesia with sedation and recovery takes an average of 7 to 10 days. The result - a tighter neckline - is immediately visible.
After the neck lift
24 hours after the procedure, the dressing will be replaced by a pressure bandage, which you will wear day and night for one week. After that, you will only wear it at night. Swelling and bruising are normal and disappear gradually. Temporary reduced sensation in the neck or cheeks is also possible and will recover by itself. Cold compresses may provide relief.
Risks and complications
Swelling, bruising and temporary loss of sensation are common. Those who use blood thinners or smoke are at increased risk of post-bleeding or delayed wound healing. In rare cases, part of the skin may become less well supplied with blood. Scars are initially visible but usually fade well.
