Breast augmentation
Small breasts, uneven breasts, breasts that have become droopy due to weight loss or pregnancy... If your breasts are too small for your liking, this can have a major impact on your life. Dr Schiettecatte understands this very well and is happy to discuss your wishes and the possibilities of breast enlargement with a prosthesis or breast implant.
If necessary, your breast augmentation will be combined with a breast lift, so that the nipple has a nice position on your breast. Plastic surgery can give your breasts a more beautiful shape and better proportion to your physique. In addition to a natural-looking result, your health and safety are the priorities for your breast enlargement. Dr Schiettecatte therefore uses only FDA-approved, high-quality silicone implants, so that your enlarged breasts look, feel and move naturally.

The consultation and an estimate
Dr Schiettecatte is your attending plastic surgeon in Kliniek Veldhoven. Prior to the breast enlargement, you will have a personal intake interview with Dr Schiettecatte to discuss your wishes and the possibilities together. In it, you will discuss together the types of prostheses (implants), the desired cup size and the placement of the implant. Please also bring photos of what you like on the day of the consultation. Dr Schiettecatte will be happy to discuss the options with you. Please visit contact with us to schedule your no-obligation consultation. After the consultation, you will receive a customised quote.
Breast implant placement
The breast implant can above (subfascial) or under (dual plane) the pectoral muscle. Placement above the muscle gives the most natural result. The breast prosthesis is then placed directly under the mammary gland tissue and moves naturally with your body. If you have thin skin or little mammary gland tissue, there is a chance that the edge of the prosthesis may be felt and visible at the top.
With dual plane breast augmentation, you avoid the above disadvantage. With the dual plane technique, the prosthesis is covered at the top by the large breast muscle and at the bottom by your breast tissue. As a result, the edges are not felt or visible.
During the consultation, Dr Schiettecatte will discuss the options with you.
The operation
Before the operation, Dr Schiettecatte will draw on your breasts with marker how the operation will take place. Once you are under anaesthesia, he will make an incision in the fold of skin under your breast or next to the nipple. Beforehand, he will discuss with you what choice he will make in this. Depending on your personal situation, the breast prosthesis is placed below or above the pectoral muscle. If you also get a breast lift, the nipples are then positioned. The wound is sutured with very fine thread to minimise scarring. Breast augmentation is performed at Aesthetic Beauty Clinics in Veldhoven. The operation takes about one hour.
Recently, Dr Schiettecatte has been using a new surgical technique (French Touch) where you do not get a scar under your breasts. The breast prostheses are then placed through your armpit. Read more about it here.
After breast augmentation
Immediately after surgery, your breast will be bandaged. Sometimes small tubes (drains) are provided during surgery to drain the wound fluid from the wound. These drains are removed about three days after surgery. The stitches are removed by Dr Schiettecatte after about two weeks.
For successful wound healing, you will wear a special bra day and night for six weeks after surgery. After that, you will wear a firm sports bra for some time. After this recovery period, you can wear regular lingerie.
When enlarging your breasts, your glands are not affected. Breastfeeding is still possible as normal after your operation.
Risks and complications of breast augmentation
Breast augmentation also carries risks, although complications are rare. Haemorrhage and infection are possible. The risk of infection is considerably lower in non-smokers (less than 1%). Very rarely, a thickened (hypertrophic) scar may develop, or breast sensitivity may be permanently reduced. Very rarely, it does happen that a prosthesis is rejected by the body. The prosthesis then has to be removed. Over time, a connective tissue layer (capsule) forms around the prosthesis. This capsule can contract, making the breasts hard and unnaturally round and sometimes painful to the touch. Sometimes surgery may prove necessary as a result. Finally, over time, wear and tear of the breast prosthesis is possible, so your prostheses may need to be replaced at some point. This is only necessary if you develop symptoms. Dr Schiettecatte will discuss all possible risks in detail with you prior to the operation. He will also discuss with you what you yourself can do to limit the risks.
