Liposuction
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure in which stubborn fat is removed locally with a thin suction tube. This method is often used for body areas where fat does not disappear despite exercising or dieting. Examples include the double chin, 'love handles' around the abdomen, 'saddlebags' around the hips and thighs, as well as the upper arms. Liposuction is popular because it is a relatively quick way to improve body contours without large incisions. However, the skin itself is not tightened, so the result also depends on the elasticity of your skin.

The consultation and an estimate
Dr Schiettecatte is your attending plastic surgeon in Kliniek Veldhoven. Prior to liposuction, you will have a personal intake meeting with Dr Schiettecatte to discuss your wishes and expectations. During this meeting, you will look together at the body areas where you would like to have fat removed and it will be explained what results you can expect. The course of the procedure and recovery will also be discussed. Dr Schiettecatte is happy to think with you. Take contact with us to schedule your no-obligation consultation. Afterwards, you will receive a customised quote.
The liposuction surgery
In liposuction, Dr Schiettecatte removes excess fat locally. A thin cannula is used for this purpose, which is inserted into the skin through small incisions. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia, possibly with a mild sedation. Liposuction aims to improve the contour of specific areas, such as the double chin, abdomen, hips or thighs, and is therefore not a weight-loss method. The advantage of liposuction is that the results are permanent, as long as your weight remains stable. Dr Schiettecatte performs liposuction with extreme precision for a natural and balanced result.
Risks and complications of liposuction
During the initial consultation, we discuss which risks are relevant to you. After the procedure, you may experience swelling, bruising and temporary numbness in the treated area. There is a small risk of infection, subsequent bleeding or impaired wound healing. In rare cases, contour irregularities or asymmetry may occur. The risk of complications is lower if you do not smoke or stop doing so temporarily. Recovery is usually without any problems.
Aftercare for liposuction
After the procedure, the treated area is usually swollen and sensitive. You will be given a pressure suit or elastic bandage immediately after liposuction to reduce swelling and support skin repair. You usually wear this for a few weeks, depending on the area treated. Bruising and a sore feeling are normal and disappear gradually. The small incisions usually heal quickly and leave minimal scarring. After six weeks, results are more visible and you can start taking care of the skin and possibly massaging it for optimal recovery.
