Patients regularly ask me what they themselves can do to prevent or counteract ageing of the skin. First and foremost, genetic factors play a role in ageing skin. Unfortunately, you will have to make do with the skin that nature has given you. However, you can also influence the extent to which signs of ageing appear. Your lifestyle plays the most important role.

Healthy eating is crucial for a young appearance

By now, everyone knows that smoking and overexposure to UV radiation from sun and tanning beds are disastrous for health and accelerate the ageing process. What few people know, however, is that the rate of ageing is largely determined by what we eat and how we eat. According to studies by the leading US university Harvard, ageing symptoms appear to be inhibited by a healthy diet. However, most diets focus on weight loss. As far as I am concerned, that should definitely not be the primary goal. After all, a good diet ensures, that we stay healthy longer and slows down the ageing process.
